Weequahic Golf Course

Upcoming Events at Weequahic Golf Course

About

Originally designed by George Lowe—then the head professional at Baltusrol Golf Club—Weequahic Golf Course first opened for play in 1914, making it the oldest public golf course in the state of New Jersey. Following its most recent comprehensive renovation by Stephen Kay, Weequahic reopened in Summer 2025. The course now features completely rebuilt greens, tees, bunkers, and a refined routing that significantly enhances playability while preserving its historic character.

Set within the scenic landscape of Weequahic Park along the shoreline of its 200-acre lake, the course blends rolling terrain with newly upgraded playing surfaces that provide outstanding conditioning and value. While modest in length, there are fair landing areas in Fairways, with unexpected hilly terrain, and newly contoured greens that present a strategic test that challenges golfers of every skill level and encourages the use of every club in the bag.

This historic layout, nestled in the heart of Newark with convenient access from multiple major highways, offers a welcoming yet engaging experience for beginners and seasoned players alike. Framed by views of One World Trade Center and the iconic Anheuser-Busch Brewery building, the revitalized Weequahic Golf Course delivers a refreshed classic that golfers will want to return to again and again.
